Police commissioner Anthony Batts is stepping up police presence on the streets of Baltimore in response to a surge in violence.
Batts outlined his plan Wednesday for city council members on Wednesday night.
Still, three men were shot early Thursday and two of them have died. Police say that incident brings the death toll in a string of shootings in the city since Friday to 11. Another 16 shooting victims have survived.
Batts says the department is ramping up warrant service, extending shifts on the weekends, and getting help on street level patrols from the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The commissioner says nearly three times the usual number officers will be on the streets this weekend.
