Goucher College President Sanford J. Ungar has told the college’s Board of Trustees he will step down next summer after leading the Towson-based liberal arts college for 13 years.
Ungar became Goucher’s 10th president in July 2001. He said he plans to leave the college effective June 30, 2014, take a year-long sabbatical, then return in the fall of 2015 to teach in the history, communication and media departments.
As president, Ungar helped to reinvigorate the college’s liberal arts curriculum, brought the college national prominence with its international perspective, burnished Goucher’s image locally and nationally, and increased the campus’s academic, athletic and residential facilities, among other achievements.
