HAGERSTOWN — A spokeswoman for the city of Hagerstown says the city’s finance director has resigned following an alleged “misuse of city money.”

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports Michelle Burker’s resignation was effective Monday.

Hagerstown’s mayor, David S. Gysberts, told the paper it was Burker’s decision to resign. He said he couldn’t talk about her resignation further because “it is a human resources matter.” No charges have been filed.

City spokesman Erin Wolfe says the amount of money in question was less than $1,000 and that the city anticipates those funds will be repaid. Burker declined to comment to the paper when reached by phone Tuesday.
