Meeting set on Fredericksburg proposal for Hagerstown Suns

FREDERICKSBURG — Representatives from the Hagerstown Suns minor league baseball team and the city of Fredericksburg will meet next week to discuss the framework of a new deal that could move the team to the city.

Suns majority owner Bruce Quinn tells The Free Lance-Star that he and two team officials will travel to Fredericksburg on Tuesday to meet with the city’s three-member negotiating team.

Both the team and the city have been working on alternative financing plans for a proposed multi-purpose stadium since a July 9 public hearing. There was support expressed for a local minor league team at that meeting, but many speakers opposed the idea of a publicly financed, $30 million stadium.

The Suns are a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
