Md. lawmaker pleads guilty to drunken boating

ANNAPOLIS — A judge will decide in October whether to accept a plea deal from a Maryland lawmaker who has pleaded guilty to a drunken boating charge relating to a collision that injured seven people last year.

Del. Don Dwyer, R-Anne Arundel, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 25.

Dwyer has reached a plea deal with prosecutors that would not include jail time.

Dwyer had reached a similar plea deal in district court in May. A judge in that case sentenced him to 30 days in jail, saying a lawmaker should be held to a higher standard. Dwyer appealed that sentence.

Retired Judge Emory Plitt Jr. from Harford County has been brought in to handle the case.
