Sewage spill prompts Deep Creek Lake restrictions

Listen to this article

McHENRY — Garrett County officials say about 36,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a creek that flows into Deep Creek Lake.

Officials imposed swimming and fishing restrictions in the north western end of Marsh Run Cove where the domestic wastewater spilled on Friday. After the overflow at the McHenry sewage holding tank, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources placed warning buoys in the area.

Officials are waiting for results of tests conducted on water samples collected on Sunday to determine whether the restrictions should stay in place.
