Ellicott City gets more free parking

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman announced changes in parking in Ellicott City’s historic area, including the conversion of nearly 10 percent of the spaces in the downtown area from metered to free.

The switch, effective immediately, is being made in Lot D, the largest of six lots serving downtown, where 58 of the 234 spaces there had been metered. Historic Ellicott City has 594 parking spaces, and the change brings the amount of free parking to about 70 percent.

Ulman also announced that 23-space Lot B, which has been closed due to damage from an August 2012 CSX train derailment, will be reopened on Saturday after completion of repairs.
