A Fort Washington man has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for stealing more than $220,000 from an armored car in an armed robbery.

Forty-eight-year-old John Bernard Williams was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.

According to his guilty plea, Williams and four others went to the Navy Federal Credit Union in Rockville on June 13, 2012. Two of them approached the courier was unloading cash from the back of the van. One man pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his waistband; the courier dropped a bag of money and ran away.

The five left the scene in two cars, met up and divided the money.

The other four have also pleaded guilty in the crime.
