Verizon Wireless’ regional chief named

Verizon Wireless announced the appointment of Marquett Smith as president of the company’s Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia region.

Smith, who is based at the company’s regional headquarters in Laurel, is responsible for sales, operations, network expansion and customer service for the region that includes about 3,000 employees.

He succeeds Mike Maiorana, who has been named senior vice president of Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

Smith joined Verizon Wireless in 2002 as director of the company’s customer service center in Laurel.

He has also worked for Sprint and held executive positions in service and sales with America Online, Cybercash and Interliant.
