Two Maryland companies have been named to the latest Forbes magazine list of “America’s Best Small Companies.”
Frederick-based U.S. Silica Holdings Inc., a producer of commercial silica and industrial mineral products, was ranked No. 8, and Owings Mills-based Medifast Inc., a provider of weight-loss products and services, took the No. 16 spot.
The list ranks 100 companies with annual sales under $1 billion.
The rankings are based on return on equity, sales growth and earnings growth over the past year, as well as the past five years.
Forbes also factors in stock performance versus each company’s peer group during the last 12 months.
