Grand jury in Baltimore indicts 48 in gang case

Prosecutors in Baltimore say a grand jury has indicted 48 alleged members and associates of the Black Guerilla Family and charged them in connection with violence and drug trafficking.

The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office announced the indictments Thursday. Prosecutors say 38 defendants are charged with taking part in a gang conspiracy. Seven are charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing eight victims. Other charges include assault, robbery and gun and drug charges.

Gang charges against the group were brought under a 2007 law that prohibits individuals from participating in a gang organized for the purpose of engaging in a pattern of criminal activity.

Prosecutors did not release the names of all the individuals who were indicted. A total of 17 names were redacted.
