Choice, Marriott lauded for LGBT roles

Two Maryland-based hotel companies — Marriott International Inc., of Bethesda, and Choice Hotels International, of Rockville — have achieved perfect, 100 percent scores on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2014 Corporate Equality Index, placing them among top corporations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.

Companies are rated on specific policies and practices, such as non-discrimination policies inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity, benefits for same-sex spouses and domestic partners, appropriate and respectful advertising, and external community outreach.

David Rodriguez, Marriott’s chief human resources officer and chief diversity executive, said that company aims to “make all of our customers, associates, families, suppliers and owners feel equally welcomed and comfortable.”
