Utah bank to close Columbia-based unit

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation has been notified by a Utah-based bank that on Feb. 20, 2014, it will close its mortgage division, located at 9250 Rumsey Road in Columbia, laying off 11 employees.

The First National Bank of Layton, based in Layton, Utah, sent the notification mandated by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act.

WARN requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide notification 60 calendar days in advance of closure of facilities and mass layoffs.

DLLR officials said they have been in contact with the company and will coordinate rapid response services as needed.
