Energy Star sales tax weekend in sight

Maryland will hold its annual tax-free weekend on Energy Star appliances on Feb. 15-17, according to the website of the Comptroller of Maryland.

The program, now in its fifth year, allows the waiver of the state’s 6 percent sales tax on qualified Energy Star appliances purchased in Maryland during the designated period.

The tax holiday applies to air conditioner, clothes washers or dryers, furnaces, heat pumps, standard-size refrigerators, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers or programmable thermostats that carry the Energy Star label.

Solar water heaters are also included in the mix.

Energy Star means products designated as meeting or exceeding the Environmental Protection Agency’s efficiency requirements.
