Candidates face financial disclosure deadline

ANNAPOLIS — A deadline is approaching for Maryland candidates to file a financial disclosure statement, if they filed a certificate of candidacy last year for this year’s primary.

State elections officials on Friday sent out a reminder of the Feb. 27 deadline, which also is the last day to withdraw candidacy.

State law requires candidates who filed for office in a non-election year to file in the election year a financial disclosure statement for the previous calendar year.

Candidates who don’t send the required financial disclosure form in time get 20 days to submit one. Candidates can be withdrawn from the ballot if they do not file after that 20 days.

State level candidates, as well as clerk of court, register of wills, sheriff and state’s attorney, are subject to the provision.
