Doughnuts? Y not?

doughnutsOn the order of philosophical questions like the tree falling in the forest, we ask this: If a doughnut shop doesn’t sell doughnuts, is it still a doughnut shop?

In Quincy, Mass., the Honey Dew Donuts chain is opening a location at a YMCA, but because it is striving to offer a menu “tailored to the healthy lifestyle the Y supports,” a Y spokeswoman told Quincy’s Patriot Ledger, the shop will sell no doughnuts.

Y-approved items include coffee, low-fat muffins, salads, sandwiches, yogurt, fruit cups and smoothies, but no Bavarian cream, chocolate iced, French cruller or sugar jelly stick.

The newspaper did point out that the low-fat muffins actually contain more calories and sugar than some of the doughnuts.
