Md. ranked as ‘brain-healthiest state’

Maryland has been ranked as the brain-healthiest state in the U.S., according to a state-by-state ranking of brain health by the National Center for Creative Aging, of Washington, D.C., and life’sDHA, a brand of DSM Nutritional Products, of Columbia.

The 2014 America’s Brain Health Index evaluated the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia based on 21 factors including diet and nutrition, physical health, mental health and social well-being.

Maryland is top-ranked on the basis of strengths that include high consumption of fish rich in DHA and DHA-fortified foods and supplements, low incidence of Alzheimer’s disease-related deaths and few smokers in the state.
