Y programs benefit from Weinberg grant

The Y of Central Maryland announced it has received a $700,000 grant from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, of Baltimore, to support Y Youth Development programs in Baltimore.

These programs annually serve 12,400 preschool- to high school-aged children from families living at or below the federal poverty level.

Among programs that will receive funds from the grant are the Y Readers programs, Reach and Rise Mentoring, the Fit N Fun childhood obesity program, Y STEM programs and New Horizons II Summer Camp for Homeless Teens.

The foundation provides approximately $100 million in annual grants to nonprofits that provide direct services to low-income and vulnerable individuals and families, primarily in the U.S. and Israel.
