Bloomberg to provide updates on bitcoin

Just days after Maryland authorities warned consumers to use caution with bitcoin, a leading source in finance has taken steps to increase awareness about the increasingly popular virtual currency.

Bloomberg announced Wednesday that it would begin providing updates on bitcoin on Bloomberg Professional. It will list data from exchanges Coinbase and Kraken, as well as news updates and social media posts about the currency.

Bloomberg said it decided to provide this information for three reasons: transparency, innovation and client demand — they say clients are becoming more and more interested in digital currencies.

Authorities and experts in Maryland seem to have mixed opinions on bitcoin.

Some say it’s the way of the future, while others point to its volatility and recent security issues as faults.
