Swipe to Donate Life

Registering to be an organ donor is pretty easy, right? Thanks to the new-fangled Internet, those who don’t do it at the Motor Vehicle Administration can easily register from home by typing in a few personal identifiers.

But at one recent charity event in Arizona, it took even less effort to sign up.

At the 10th Annual Pat’s Run last month, attendees were able to sign up as an organ donor simply by swiping their driver’s licenses with the help of a mobile phone or iPad.

Baltimore-based Barcoding Inc. provided the scanning accessory, which worked with a mobile app, called “Swipe to Donate Life,” to collect the donor data.

Thanks to this expedited process, the Donor Network of Arizona was able to get 1,316 new organ donors into the DonateLifeAZ registry.
