A former Maryland correctional officer faces sentencing in federal court for his role in the severe beating of an inmate at the Roxbury Correctional Institution near Hagerstown in 2008.
Reginald Martin faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing Thursday in Baltimore. Martin acknowledged in a January plea deal that he watched others assault inmate Kenneth Davis and then conspired to cover it up.
Eleven other former officers have received federal court sentences ranging from probation to 2 1/2 years in prison. Two more await sentencing.
Two other former officers were convicted in state court. They got probation after testifying against co-workers.
Prosecutors say Davis spent four days in a hospital after he was beaten by officers on three successive shifts to punish him for punching a guard.
