When PetSmart Inc. closes its distribution center in Hagerstown, about 20 percent of its employees will relocate to the new distribution facility in Bethel, Pennsylvania, a spokesperson for the company said Tuesday.
According to an alert from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, 56 employees at the Hagerstown location will be impacted by the closing, which begins July 24 and continues in phases until September.
However, the spokesperson said that the facility previously had about 100 employees, and about 20 have either relocated to Bethel, or will do so soon.
PetSmart said in February that it was closing distribution centers in Hagerstown and Gahanna, Ohio, and replacing them with a larger center in Bethel. The Hagerstown and Ohio employees were all offered jobs at the new facility, which opened in March, as well as relocation incentives.
