Baltimore loves renting to Millennials

Those narcissistic, entitled, self-obsessed Millennials love them some Baltimore, hon.

According to rankings released Thursday by RealtyTrac, Charm City is the best market in the nation to rent to people born between 1977 and 1992. In the Baltimore area, the 2014 annual gross yield for renting to Millennials is 21.32 percent.

The rankings also reported that residents between the age of 21 and 36 made up 27.4 percent of the total population in the Baltimore-Towson metropolitan statistical area in 2013. That is an 11.3 percent increase from 2007.

Baltimore’s institutions of higher learning draw a high concentration of Millennials. Rent in Baltimore is lower than in other East Coast metropolitan areas such as Washington, New York and Philadelphia. Tight credit markets are also prolonging purchasing a home resulting in the older members of the generation renting longer.
