No more Uber for Naptown

Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides has requested that Uber Technologies cease operations in the city until it gains regulatory approval from the city and the Maryland Public Service Commission.

The mayor has asked Uber Technologies to register with the city and state as a taxicab service, even though the company has made clear that it does not want its cars to be regulated as taxis

“I am happy to know there is another means of transportation that will help increase our City’s mobility efforts, but I must also be diligent in insisting that they are regulated, just like our taxicabs, in an effort to keep our citizens and visitors safe,” said Pantelides in a statement Monday.

According to a release, the city notified Uber of this decision on June 25, but the city has not received a response.
