BD approved for STD testing products

BD Diagnostics, of Baltimore, a segment of medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Co.), announced it has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for products that test for sexually transmitted diseases chlamydia and gonorrhea — BD ProbeTec and Qx Amplified DNA Assay on the BD Viper LT System, which is designed to manage primary sample tubes with pierceable caps and ready-to-use reagents via an automated platform. The Centers for Disease Control estimates nearly 2.86 million people in the United States are infected with chlamydia and more than 820,000 contract new gonorrheal infections each year in the United States.
