Software delays hit Maryland bar exam takers

Listen to this article

Maryland bar-exam takers — who are now in the midst of the second day of testing — apparently were among those who experienced difficulties uploading their answer files yesterday at the conclusion of the first day of the exam.

According to an AP report,

“Florida-based testing software provider ExamSoft Worldwide Inc. said a processing issue has caused delays for bar exam takers in multiple states who were submitting their answers.

Some test takers experienced slowness or difficulty in returning completed exams Tuesday to company servers using company software, vice president of marketing Kenneth Knotts said early Wednesday.”

My phone call to the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners wasn’t returned, but Knotts said in an email that the processing delay did not affect the content of test takers’ answers.  ExamSoft is still investigating why it took six hours longer than usual to process answers onto the company’s servers, Knotts said. He said ExamSoft could not estimate the number of students who were affected by the glitch.

ExamSoft’s website lists Maryland as one of 16 states where uploading deadlines for the exam were extended. (ExamSoft processes bar exam answers in 43 states, according to the AP.)  Maryland test takers now have until 11:59 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, to submit their files with Tuesday’s answers.
