Coastal Companies held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new 240,000-square-foot headquarters in Laurel on Thursday.
The dairy and produce distributor’s new facility is expected to be complete in early 2016. The new headquarters will be home to a variety of Coastal Companies subsidiaries including Coastal Sunbelt Produce, East Coast Fresh and Cold Chain Logistics.
“By working with our partners in Howard County, we are ensuring that The Coastal Companies — which has tripled in size over the last six years — has a new state-of-the-art facility with the space needed to expand and add new jobs ,” said Gov. Martin O’Malley said in a news release.
The company, which currently is in Savage, received a $1 million conditional loan from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development as well at $150,000 in relocation funds from Howard County.
Coastal Companies are expected to create 400 new jobs by 2018.
“We appreciate the support we have received from the State of Maryland and Howard County,” said The Coastal Companies CEO John Corso said in a news release. “We believe our new headquarters will help us maintain our robust growth for years to come.”
