Seven-year sentence for man whose friend died in O.C. fight

(AP) A man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the death of his longtime friend in a fight outside an Ocean City bar. The Daily Times of Salisbury reported that a Worcester County Circuit judge gave 49-year-old George Nottingham of West Ocean City the maximum sentence for manslaughter on Wednesday. It was Nottingham’s second trial on a manslaughter charge in the death of 39-year-old Mike Post of Ocean City. A trial last year ended in a hung jury. Post died in January 2013. According to testimony, the two longtime friends argued in the Harbor Inn bar after Post stole Nottingham’s cellphone as a prank. Outside the bar, Nottingham took a swing at Post, who slipped on an icy patch of sidewalk, hit his head and died. Nottingham apologized in court for his actions.
