ANA recommends nursing initiatives

The American Nurses Association, of Silver Spring, has made recommendations to deal with a possible shortage of registered nurses soon. The ANA said the U.S. will need to produce 1.1 million new RNs by 2022 to fill newly created jobs and replace soon-to-be retirees. The organization recommends increased federal funding for nursing education, growth in capacity at nursing schools and replacement of aging nursing education faculty and hiring of new nursing graduates so they can learn from experienced RNs who will be retiring shortly.
