The legal services sector added 3,300 jobs in August, marking its largest employment jump in more than a year, according to the Department of Labor’s monthly employment report.
After a sluggish July report, the industry boost brings the number of legal jobs up to 1,139,900 – a preliminary and seasonally adjusted figure – even as overall U.S. job growth slowed to its lowest level of the year in August.
Although job growth in the industry was slow for the first half of 2014, the sector has now added more than 3,000 total jobs this year. The number of legal jobs has not been this high since February 2009.
The U.S. added 142,000 jobs in August, the smallest gain in eight months, according to the Department of Labor.
The legal services sector includes lawyers, paralegals, patent agents, legal consultants and other occupations.
