(AP) School officials in Charles County will be voting on whether to raise the minimum grade point average for students who want to participate in scholastic sports. Television station WJLA reported the county’s Board of Education will vote Tuesday on a proposal that would raise the minimum GPA for athletes from 2.0 to 2.25. The proposal also says that any student who does not meet the minimum attendance requirement or receives a failing grade for the semester will be ineligible for participation in sports for the following semester. The proposed attendance requirement is that students not have been absent more than 9.5 days. Currently, a student must have no more than one failing grade per quarter in order to participate in extracurricular activities.
