First phase of Inner Harbor Wi-Fi Project complete

Just in time for the Star-Spangled Spectacular 2014, visitors and residents of Baltimore will be able to access free Internet service along the Inner Harbor Promenade.  Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is scheduled to announce the completion of the first phase of the Inner Harbor Wi-Fi  Project on Monday morning.

In July, when the Mayor’s Office of Information Technology asked the city’s spending panel to approve an estimated $90,626 for the procurement of wi-fi hardware and installation, the office noted the importance of having wi-fi in place for the Spectacular, which gets under way this week and will put Baltimore in the national spotlight.

The office told the Board of Estimates that Port Networks Inc. was “the only vendor among the few vendors that are already familiar with the City’s infrastructure, fiber and connectivity network, capable of meeting the required scheduling constraints.”
