Marriott wants you to tip its housekeepers

Did you know it’s International Housekeepers Week?

Well, Bethesda-based Marriott International Inc. does, and it’s making a statement on tipping the men and women who clean up after hotel guests.

The company this week announced the launch of a campaign called “The Envelope Please.” Envelopes will be placed in more than 160,000 participating hotels reminding guests to leave a tip for the housekeeper with the following message:

“Thanks for staying at Marriott Hotels. Our caring room attendants enjoyed making your stay warm and comfortable. Please feel free to leave a gratuity to express your appreciation for their efforts.”

Maria Shriver and A Woman’s Nation, her organization that promotes awareness for women’s issues, are partners in the campaign.

Chairman Bill Marriott also wrote a blog post on the topic on Marriott’s website.

“It’s not old fashioned to leave a gratuity,” he wrote. “It’s the right thing to do.”
