Sodexo commits to small business

Sodexo Inc., of Gaithersburg, a quality of life services company, has committed to spending $1 billion on goods and services from small and medium-sized businesses by 2017 as a Commitment to Action at Monday’s Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York. Sodexo said its commitment to invest in 5,000 businesses is projected to generate more than 250,000 jobs over the next three years. For Sodexo, the initiative includes buying from family farms such as Shlagel Farms in Waldorf. “Small and medium-sized enterprises are key engines for growth and job creation,” George Chavel, Sodexo’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “… Increased support for SMEs means greater support for local communities and access to innovative products and services for businesses and their clients.”
