Lockheed Martin, the Bethesda-based security and aerospace company, will provide Qatar’s Apache attack helicopters with a new laser-directed targeting system under a $90.6 million contract with the U.S. Army, Lockheed announced Monday. The Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor systems are designed to perform at night and in poor weather. The systems are produced in Orlando and Ocala, Florida. Mike Taylor, Apache international programs director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said in a statement: “The new Laser Range Finder Designator is more than two times more reliable, improves targeting performance and can be repaired or replaced on the flight line, which significantly reduces operation and support costs.”
