Maryland CEO honored by vets’ business group

The National Veteran-Owned Business Association has named Lorenzo Downing, president and CEO of National Harbor-based Spartan Business & Technology Inc., as its first Minority Vetrepreneur of the Year. Downing, who served 24 years in the Air Force, launched Spartan, a business management and IT services firm, in 2010. The company grew from $59,000 in revenue at the end of 2011 to more than $8 million by the end of last year. “To be selected as the first Minority Vetrepreneur of the Year is certainly a proud moment in my career,” Downing said in a statement. “This honor reaffirms my decision to step out on faith and start a professional services firm. It hasn’t been without its challenges, which makes receiving this award extremely gratifying.”
