Choice Hotels profit increases slightly

Choice Hotels International, a Rockville-based company that franchises more than 6,300 hotels worldwide, reported a 1.7 percent increase in profit for the quarter. Choice’s net income for 2014’s third quarter was $39.4 million, or 67 cents per diluted share, compared with $38.7 million and 66 cents for the same period in 2013. Domestic revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased 8.8 percent in the third quarter of 2014. “We are optimistic that strong RevPAR performance should continue in the fourth quarter and into 2015,” Stephen P. Joyce, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
