Ground broken on Waldorf power plant

Competitive Power Ventures, of Rockville, an energy company, along with Japanese partners Marubeni and Toyota Tsusho, broke ground Tuesday on a power plant in Waldorf. The $775 million, 725-megawatt CPV St. Charles Energy Center will run on natural gas. CPV cited the benefits of the location: a reliable water supply for efficient cooling, proximity to Pepco transmission lines and the nearby Dominion Cove Point natural gas pipeline. The project is expected to create up to 400 construction jobs and 24 permanent jobs.
