Director for the York Road Initiative
Loyola University Maryland
Building and sustaining a collaborative and effective team of diverse neighborhood residents, business owners and public and private partners to address the economic, physical and human needs along Baltimore city’s racially and socio-economically divided York Road corridor is Erin O’Keefe’s proudest accomplishment.
A community engagement initiative through Loyola University Maryland, the York Road Initiative aims to produce positive change in the area. O’Keefe has served as director since August 2010.
“I believe complex needs can be solved by working with and trusting others,” she said. “I work daily to acknowledge and bridge differences among diverse people and groups.”
With a desire to help, O’Keefe has spent a majority of her career working to help others, including as manager of volunteer services at the Associated Catholic Charities and coordinator of community affairs at Johns Hopkins University. She also donates her time to several organizations, including the Citizens Planning and Housing Association, the Greater Homewood Community Corporation and Rebuilding Together Baltimore.
