Community Alternative Mediation, Frederick
Katie Nash had a fulfilling job as a business and program manager in the private sector, but she wanted to become more involved in her hometown of Frederick. She decided to run in 2013 for one of five positions on the Board of Aldermen.
During the campaign, Nash met many residents, learned about issues affecting them and local neighborhoods. She lost the election by a short margin but found her voice as an advocate for change. Today, she serves as CEO and executive director for Community Alternative Mediation, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable and accessible conflict resolution services to Frederick County residents.
“I need to be a voice in our community and be fearless in my fight for those who traditionally have been voiceless,” she said. “It isn’t just a mantra for me. It is my way of life and the best way I can demonstrate my commitment.”
