Kimberly R. Manns

Program Director

Baltimore Campaign for Grade Level Reading

Kimberly R. Manns hopes to inspire Baltimore to improve literacy.

In Baltimore city, 14 percent of students are proficient readers by fourth grade and 50 percent are below basic, according to the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress.

As program director of the Baltimore Campaign for Grade Level Reading, which is associated with the Fund for Educational Excellence, Manns helps organizations come together and develop a collective strategy.

“There are so many people in our city who really care about this issue and the success of our children, and just figuring out how to maximize our limited resources is a new way to improve our impact,” Manns said.

Before taking her current job, Manns worked to expand the Read to Succeed program, serving more than 2,500 youth.
