U.S. travelers plan to spend more

Americans are planning to spend a bit more on traveling next year and are more likely to visit someplace they saw in a movie or that offers particular dining choices, according to survey results announced Tuesday by Choice Hotels International, a Rockville-based hotel company. Choice’s survey found that respondents plan to spend 8 percent more on leisure travel in 2015 than in 2014. “Set-jetting,” which is traveling to a location seen in a movie, is projected to increase by 18 percent next year, and food-inspired travel is projected up 30 percent. However, half of the respondents would rather skip their trips if their travel partners were Ben Affleck, Derek Jeter, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey or Warren Buffett.
