OCEAN CITY — Federal investigators say the pilot in last year’s fatal plane crash in Ocean City may not have been adequately trained in the aerobatic moves he was performing.
Off-duty police officers Thomas Geohegan and Joshua Adickes were killed in the crash on June 30, 2013. Geohegan was the pilot and owner of the airplane.
According to The Daily Times of Salisbury, the National Transportation Safety Board determined that the crash was caused by Geohegan losing situational awareness during a spin and misjudging his altitude.
The NTSB also found that his flight records showed “no evidence of formal aerobatic training,” despite evidence that he had conducted such maneuvers before.
The report found that the plane didn’t have any mechanical problems before it crashed.
