The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare has inducted University of Maryland School of Social Work professor Diane DePanfilis, Ph.D., MSW, as a fellow. DePanfilis is the developer of Family Connections, a program that has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its efforts to prevent child neglect and that is being replicated in multiple sites nationwide. This community-based program works with vulnerable families in their homes, in the context of their neighborhoods, to help them meet the basic needs of their children and prevent child maltreatment.
