Hanover-based communications networking company Ciena Corporation will be laying off 57 employees working at its Linthicum office, according to a notice from state officials.
The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation issued a statement that says the employees of the office’s distribution and product engineering departments, located on Elkridge Landing Road, will be laid off in May.
A spokesperson for Ciena said “approximately 55 employees” in the company’s Maryland supply chain team will be laid off starting in May and ending in October. Their jobs – in “Distribution, Repair and related activities” – will be outsourced.
“As part of Ciena’s long-term strategy to leverage strategic partners in our supply chain model for greater efficiencies and margin improvement, we have decided to outsource the Distribution, Repair and related activities that are currently carried out in Maryland,” External Communications Director Jamie Moody wrote in an email.
