The Maryland Legal Services Corporation (MLSC) honored five individuals and one organization that have contributed significantly to legal services and access to justice for low-income Marylanders at its Annual Awards Reception at the Grand Historic Venue.
Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera and MLSC Chairman Glenn F. Ivey welcomed more than 200 guests to the cocktail reception and presided over the 2014 awards ceremony.
This year’s awardeesincluded:
Arthur W. Machen, Jr. Award: Honorable Ben C. Clyburn, retired Chief Judge of the District Court of Maryland.
Benjamin L. Cardin Distinguished Service Awards: Alyssa R. Fieo of the Maryland Disability Law Center and Sharon E. Goldsmith of the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland
William L. Marbury Outstanding Advocate Awards: Barbara A. Coleman of Maryland Legal Aid and Neal T. Conway of Community Legal Services of Prince George’s County
Herbert S. Garten Public Citizen Award: Brown, Goldstein & Levy LLP
MLSC was established in 1982 to raise funds and make grants to nonprofit organizations for the provision of civil legal assistance to low-income Marylanders. MLSC is principally funded by Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and surcharges on court filing fees.
