Marriott International Inc. announced Tuesday it has agreed to buy the Delta Hotels and Resorts brand and management and franchise business of Canada for $135 million. Delta’s brand comprises 38 hotels with 10,000 rooms in more than 30 cities across Canada. When the deal is complete, Bethesda-based Marriott will have more than 120 hotels and 27,000 rooms across Canada. Arne Sorenson, president and chief executive officer of Marriott International, said in a statement: “Delta has an impressive portfolio of hotels that are among the most preferred in Canada. With this acquisition, we are continuing our focus on building our brand portfolio and growing in attractive regions outside the U.S.” Marriott said it expects the transaction to close in the second quarter this year.
