Brinkley, other Hogan appointments pass first test

The first of five Cabinet appointments made by Republican Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan appear headed toward an expected confirmation vote later this week.

The Senate Executive Nominations Committee voted Monday night to recommend confirmation of more than 20 total appointments including: Budget Secretary-designee David R. Brinkley; Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary-Designee Van T. Mitchell; Department of Licensing, Labor and Regulation Secretary-designee Kelly Schulz; Planning Secretary-Designee David Craig; and Veterans Affairs Secretary-designee George W. Owings.

The committee met for a little over an hour with none of the appointees, including 15 judicial appointments made by former Gov. Martin J. O’Malley facing any tough questions from the committee.

The names of all 20 appointments will go to the full Senate for a final vote. That vote is expected by Friday.
