JULIAN DOMINQUE FREEMAN v. STATE OF MARYLAND

After a jury trial in the Circuit Court for Worcester County, Julian Freeman, appellant, was convicted of participation in a criminal gang and acquitted on two counts of first degree assault and two counts of second degree assault. Appellant, who was sentenced to five years, contends that there was insufficient evidence to support his conviction.

The State presented evidence that on Saturday, April 24, 2011, appellant and members of a gang from Dover, Delaware were involved in an early morning fight on the Ocean City boardwalk. Appellant admitted being a member of the gang. The central issue at trial was whether appellant participated, along with other members of a Dover gang, in assaulting two victims.
