Sex offender who illegally entered U.S., failed to register, gets 4 years

A native of El Salvador was sentenced to just under four years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender and for illegally re-entering the U.S. after conviction for a felony. Osmin Alfaro, 39, of Rockville, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. Judge Paul W. Grimm ordered that upon his release from prison, Alfaro will be subject to deportation. According to his plea agreement, Alfaro was convicted of a sexual offense in the Montgomery County Circuit Court and ordered to register as a sex offender in 2004. After initially registering as a sex offender but then moving and not updating his registration, Alfaro was deported to El Salvador in 2008. He illegally re-entered the United States sometime before March 2010 and lived in Maryland but did not update his registration as a sex offender.
